T-Mobile's best plans for keeping your number at the lowest price
Legacy Pay As You Go (No fixed monthly fees)
This plan has no fixed fees at all. To keep your line active, all you need to do is recharge your number (minimum $1) every 3 months. If you will be staying abroad for quite a while and want to keep your US number at the lowest price possible, this would be most ideal for you. To switch to this plan, you need to call the customer service hotline at 611 or (800)937-8997 or chat with a representative on Twitter (@TMobile).
But please be aware that this plan doesn't include any inbound/outbound texts or minutes, so you will be charged $0.1 for each inbound text, $0.5 for each outbound text, and $0.25 for each MMS.
Legacy Pay As You Go by Day ($1/Day)
Everything except that you have to pay a fixed fee of $1 per day is the same as the Legacy Pay As You Go plan. You can sign up for this plan using the same method mentioned above.
Pay As You Go ($3/Month)
This plan charges a fixed monthly fee of $3 and includes 30 texts and 30 minutes. To sign up for this plan, you can directly contact T-Mobile. Alternatively, if you are currently on another plan, such as the $10 Connect by T-Mobile plan, if your airtime credit is above $3 but below $10, you will be automatically opted-in to this plan after 3 months.
Where to buy an eSIM/physical SIM card?
If you have an eSIM-compatible handset, you can download an app called T-Mobile Prepaid eSIM and sign up for whatever plan to your liking. Or you can buy a physical SIM card via T-Mobile's official site www.tmobile.com or via an eBay seller.
